Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF), India is the service arm for the funds raised by SEF, USA.

Dr. R.V Ramani and his wife, Dr. Radha Ramani established a small clinic in Coimbatore in 1977, under the aegis of Sri KanchiKamakoti Medical Trust. In 1985, Sankara Eye Hospital in Coimbatore was established. Today, SEF India has become the largest community eye care network in the world with ten hospitals across India and constructing two more in the coming years.

To date, SEF, India has performed over 2 million free eye surgeries for the needy and has won numerous awards for its quality service including Padmashri for its founder, Dr. R V Ramani in the year 2019.

Gift of Vision

SEF India operates award winning rural outreach program called Giftof Vision, where SEF India reaches out to villages surrounding each hospital, up to a distance of 300 km, taking its solution to the doorsteps of the rural poor. They bring the patients back to the base hospital, provide room/board, perform free eye surgery, and drop them back.

Self-Sufficiency

SEF India also is running on an unique self-sufficiency model, where 80 percent of the patients, who are poor, are treated completely free and 20 percent pay for their treatment making the hospitals self sufficient within a few years after inception. This model allows SEF to scale its operations across the nation.

SEF, India offers total specialty eye care services including Preventative, Curative and Rehabilitative.
